Why Barbados Is an Ideal Destination for Any Type of Traveler

Accommodation Abudhabi introduces

As we approach our second winter of the pandemic, the Caribbean is proving to be an especially popular international escape among American travelers. Relatively close to home, with plenty of COVID-19 protection measures in place and beautiful, warm weather year-round, the region ticks all the boxes for vacationers looking to get back out into the world and escape the daily grind.

Over the course of the pandemic, several islands have even instituted longer visas for foreigners to come to their countries to live and work remotely while enjoying the idyllic lifestyle they offer and enable long-term visitors to delve deeper into their cultures and unique heritage.

The eastern Caribbean island of Barbados—which is, fortunately, situated outside the Atlantic hurricane belt—is especially well-suited to such a scheme, given its vast variety of offerings promise to delight absolutely every kind of traveler. In fact, the country’s 12-month Welcome Stamp program has proven singularly successful, having lured over 5,000 approved visitors to take up temporary residence on the island while working remotely.

Barbados’ allure isn’t limited to its crystal-clear Caribbean waters, 70 miles of stunning sandy beaches or brilliantly vivid skies. The island has something special in store for every kind of traveler, from vacationing families to lone adventurers, explorers, history buffs, ecotourists, foodies and more.

With a colonization history that dates back nearly 400 years, every place on the island comes with a story. Culture and history lovers might enjoy a visit to Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which boasts wonderfully well-preserved examples of British colonial architecture. Onsite, visitors will discover numerous attractions, tours, libraries, museums and shopping opportunities.

And, you needn’t consider yourself a foodie to appreciate the island’s signature Bajan cuisine, which has earned Barbados the unofficial title of “Culinary Capital of the Caribbean”. Here, amid an inviting atmosphere and warm and friendly people, every meal is a celebration in itself.

Barbados is also an ideal spot to satisfy the needs of a growing number of wellness travelers. Visitors will find rejuvenation, not only in the calming and reenergizing waters of the Caribbean Sea but through stays at dedicated wellness retreats or standalone experiences, such as spa treatments, yoga or meditation classes. Active options, including hiking, biking, snorkeling, scuba diving and paddleboarding, are equally restorative for mind, body and soul.

The truth is that, while many people who plan on visiting Barbados imagine it will be a once-in-a-lifetime type of trip, they quickly discover that it’s the kind of destination they want to come back to, time and time again. Travelers find that, here, each day promises new adventures, discoveries and experiences, creating memories that last a lifetime.
